    Outline - The American Dream

My topic is going to be „The American Dream“ - A lot of people heard about it and have a vague idea what it might be but that does not apply to everyone. I once read a newspaper article about it and we also talked about it in the ninth grades' english lessons. Somehow I found it interesting and it intensified my interest in the United States. In that year I have also been in America for the first time and when I came back I loved America even more. As a conclusion I decided to write about the American Dream to learn more about this subject and about the United States in general.

Finding Information about it was not that easy, though. Nevertheless I found a lot about it on the internet and also some literature which helped me to figure out the following theses:

Does the American Dream exist nowadays and does it work?
What does Immigrants think about the American Dream?
Is the American Dream desirable and does every US-citizen has the same opportunity to achieve it?

My paper will start with an introduction and an explanation of the American Dream. That means I will explain what that „dream“ is and I will give some examples of people who lived the dream and got famous (Rockefeller, Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak, etc.).
I will also show the other side of the medal and mention the people who imigrated to the United States and failed in living the dream. Furthermore I will try to proof that it is very difficult to actually become rich and famous by searching for a/creating a diagram which shows all the people who have to accept three or more jobs to survive. These people often have problems to nourish their family and have to live in the slums because the American government does not support them.
It will take about two and a half to three pages.

After I did that, I will move on to the main part, which deals with my theses and gives answers to them by summarising oppinions from books and articles. I will also refer to a movie called „The Persuit of Happyness“. Maybe l will also include an interview about my topic which I will have with a good friend from America.
The books I will problably use for my paper are going to be:

    • American Dreams - American Nightmares. Students' Book“ by Brian Tracy , 127 pages, released in 2002.
    • Der "American Dream" in US-Literatur und -Film der Gegenwart: Paul Auster, John Irving und der Film Forrest Gump“ by Janina Glatz, 153 pages, released in 2007.
    • The Audacity of Hope: Thoughts on Reclaiming the American Dream“ by Barack Obama, 464 pages, released in 2008.
    • Viewfinder Topics. New edition. The American Dream, Humankind's Second Chance“ by Peter Freese, 64 pages, released in 2005.
    • Perspectives, Vol.1, The American Dream, Past and Present“ by Peter Bruck, 49 pages, released in 1986. (I am not sure if I will really use this book, though)
It will take about three and a half pages to four and a half pages.

At the end of my essay I will give a statement about what I think about the American Dream and comment on the theses I mentioned in the beginning. I will explain my point of view and may compare it with other peoples' view.
It will take about one to one and a half pages.
The last page of my essay will be filled with a register for my refences. I will list the books I used and also give references to all the websites I used. I will also add a link to a summary of the movie „The Persuit of Happyness“.

Ich bitte um Verbesserungsvorschläge und Korrekturen

AW: Outline - The American Dream

    • American Dreams - American Nightmares. Students' Book“ by Brian Tracy , 127 pages, released in 2002.

American Dreams - American Nightmares. Students' Book“ by Brian Tracy , 127 pages, released in 2002.

American Dreams - American Nightmares, Students' Book,

AW: Outline - The American Dream
